Teak Furniture for Children’s Rooms: Bunk Beds, Trundle Beds, Study Tables and Cradles
Furnishing a child’s room in solid teak: choosing bunk beds and trundle beds, study tables at the right height, and safe baby cradles.
Children’s furniture takes more punishment than anything else in the house. Solid teak handles climbing, jumping and years of homework, and it can be passed on to the next child or the next generation.
From the start: cradles
A teak cradle is sanded smooth with rounded edges and finished with a child-safe polish. Choose a swinging cradle with its own stand, a hanging cradle, or a rocking design. See the Honey Teak Swing Cradle.
Two children, one room: bunk beds
Bunk beds free up floor space for play. Look for full-length guard rails on the top bunk, a solid ladder or staircase, and enough ceiling height (we check this before building). Some designs can later be split into two single beds. The Loft Bunk with Storage Base adds drawers too.
Sleepovers: trundle beds
A trundle bed has a second bed that rolls out from underneath. It’s ideal when a second bed is needed only sometimes, for cousins or grandparents visiting.
Homework: study tables
A teak study table made to a child’s height helps posture. Add shelves for books and drawers for supplies. As the child grows, a solid teak desk remains useful for an adult.
Safety checklist
- Rounded edges and corners.
- No gaps where small heads or limbs can get stuck.
- Tall pieces fixed to the wall.
- Child-safe finishes.
